Literature databases

Pubmed is funded by the U.S. government and free to the public. The searchable database contains bibliographic information and abstracts.

Google Scholar is funded by Google. Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Google Scholar helps you identify the most relevant research across the world of scholarly research. About

Citation data

Citation data can be found in ISI Web of Science. Access to this database requires a subscription, which is usually available through a library. Citation data can be useful to measure the impact of specific publications. The h-index was recently proposed (Hirsch JE, PNAS 2005) as a measure of the impact of an author's entire work. Hirsch writes: "A scientist has index h if h of his/her Np papers have at least h citations each, and the other (Np – h) papers have at most h citations each."

Here are some h-index measurements for well known biomechanists, based on ISI Web of Science. Please expand this list.
