What is Biomch-W?
Biomch-W is a collection of biomechanics related topics in a freely editable form.
Who owns Biomch-W?
Biomch-W is not funded by any government agency, non-profit organization or commercial entity. Ahmet Erdemir registered the domain name and supports web hosting expenses. The ultimate goal is to have a popular site where the biomechanics community contributes extensively to disseminate knowledge. At that point, it will be fair to say that Biomch-W is owned by the biomechanics community not by a single person.
What is the difference between Biomch-W and Biomch-L?
Biomch-L is a list server to allow information exchange on biomechanics related topics. Biomch-W, on the other hand, provides well-established knowledge with a common consensus, similar to an encyclopedia. In that sense, Biomch-W is a complementary effort to Biomch-L.
How can I start editing articles?
First, you need to login. If you do not have an account, you can create one. Afterwards, click on the 'edit' tab at the top of the page you want to edit. That will open a page with an editable text box that contains the article. You can consult help sections on general content and editing. The former does not necessarily provide rules but more guidelines.
How can I create a new article?
You need to make sure that the article you want to create does not exist. You can use the search box at the left to check articles with the same title or similar. The easiest way to create an article is to establish a link in an already existing one. This is possible by inserting
[[new article title]]
in the edit page. After saving the page, a link highlighted with red will appear. Clicking on the link will take you to the edit page of the new article. An alternative way is to navigate to
http://www.biomch-w.org/wiki/index.php/new_article_title
in your browser, which will take you to a page with the title 'New Article Title' displaying '(There is currently no text in this page)'. Click on the 'edit' tab at the top and start writing your article. However, this method is not advised, since the new article will not have any links from existing ones initially. The only way a viewer can reach the article will be through the search box.
Note: Replace 'new article title' or 'new_article_title' with the desired title of your article.
Please use specific titles for new articles. E.g. If the article intends to describe the mechanical properties of cartilage, name it as 'mechanical properties of cartilage' not simply 'mechanical properties'.
Is the information in Biomch-W accurate?
There is no guarantee that any information is accurate. To judge accuracy of an article, read it critically. Are literature references given? Who contributed? (click on the "history" tab at the top of the page).
If you see information that is not accurate or not complete, please edit the article. If you see information that is open to discussion, please add those discussion points to the page.
